LifeStyle Homes: Wins Competition for Best Net Zero Home in North America

The Beautiful Net Zero Trophy
The Net Zero Energy Coalition of Canada Cites the St. Croix model home from LifeStyle Homes as North America’s Best Net Zero Production Home of the Year!
We are extremely proud to have won this prestigious award in a Canadian competition as the only non-Canadian entry. The judges commented especially on the fact the the St. Croix model home from LifeStyle Homes delivers true Net Zero Energy performance in an architectural package that makes it totally compatible with the conventional up-scale homes that surround it. “Not only that,” the judges continued, “The St. Croix is not an expensive one-off custom home designed to win a competition, rather a home designed to compete for sale with similarly-priced conventional production homes in its market. While it is not ‘affordable’ in the traditional sense of the word, it is entirely reachable by mainstream American consumers. This makes it an especially remarkable achievement.”
In accepting the award, Jake Luhn, CEO of LifeStyle Homes expressed his gratitude for the wonderful recognition and said, “The St. Croix model home in Tralee Bay is a major step toward our ultimate goal of building moderately-priced Net Zero Energy homes regular people can afford. That is the best way we know of to get more of these homes actually built, instead of just being talked about. Up until now, home builders have been building homes people live in. That’s all well and good, but we aspire to build electric generating stations people live in. That is how we will solve our energy problems, and create a whole bunch of American jobs at the same time. We can’t wait!”
LifeStyle Homes: 2011 Aurora Award Winner
LifeStyle Homes has won the Aurora Award for Best Solar Energy House at the 2011 Southeast Builders Conference.
Our remarkable St. Croix model Net Zero Energy Home, the first in our new line of SunSmartPV HERS 0 homes, was cited for blending state-of-the-art energy efficiency with traditional architecture to produce an extraordinary high performance home ordinary people can aspire to own.
The Aurora competition brings together home builders and related professionals from sixteen southern states each year to recognize the best of the best in new home construction and design. Winning an Aurora Award is a genuine acknowledgement of superior achievement in the home building industry.
Pictured here is the happy crew from LifeStyle Homes, with Larry Hufford, Founding Partner, and Jake Luhn, CEO, holding the Aurora trophy. Also pictured are Samantha Webb, Bill Webb, MIRM, Marcia Luhn, Jake’s Mom, Kim Nathan, Tom Nathan, LifeStyle’s Master Builder and Kathy Hufford. The grins say it all. This was a wonderful moment in the history of LifeStyle Homes.
“I have been attending the Southeast Builders Conference for over twenty years,” Larry Hufford said. “I never thought I would get the chance to walk across a stage to pick up an Aurora Award trophy, but that’s exactly what has happened. You can bet I was thinking about my partner, John Luhn, Jake’s Father,” Hufford added, “and wishing he could have been here to help me pick it up in true LifeStyle.”
“Coming to SEBC each year was a big deal for John and I,” Hufford said. “In the beginning, when we were just scraping by financially, John and I would treat ourselves to a stay at the Peabody Hotel, right here at the Orange County Convention Center, just to congratulate ourselves for another year of really hard work. It seems like we’ve come a long way since we started,” Hufford added, “so I want to thank our great customers, associates and trade partners who have made it all possible.”
