Community Involvement
Community Involvement
Every penny we have ever earned as a company has come to us because we’re privileged to build new homes in Brevard County, Florida – the heart of Florida’s famous Space Coast. We feel it is only fair that we do our part to support the communies that have always supported us. Here are a few words about how we try to do this, and you’ll find some links to published articles and other information also, in case you’d care to learn more.
Support for Public Education
Reflecting our founders’ lifelong devotion to teaching, we maintain ongoing suppport programs for public schools in our area.
Free School Supplies
Don’t be surprised to see a big truck pulled up at a local school, and folks dressed in the red and black colors of LifeStyle Homes off-loading boxes of school supplies. “It’s just a shame,” says Jake Luhn, of LifeStyle Homes, “that budget constraints sometimes mean teachers have to spend their own money to buy the pencils and paper their students need, or worse, the children have to do without. If we can help by providing more of what teachers need to conduct interesting classes, we’re happy to do it.”
Teacher of the Month
We also invite students and parents to nominate their favorite teacher for special recognition as Teacher of the Month. “We review all the nominations we receive and select one winner each month based on their apparent enthusiasm and effectiveness,” Luhn says. “It’s a real nice feeling to offer recognition and encouragement to the teachers who excel in preparing our young people for life.”
Teacher of the Year
Once a year, we choose the Teacher of the Year from the monthly winners. Our reward for these exceptional educators is to completely renovate their classroom, making everything fresh and new as well as supplying the nice-to-have teaching aids, like audio-visual or computer equipment these teachers can use to special advantage. “It’s a pretty big deal,” Luhn says. “We all get involved in the refurbishing, and it’s a lot of fun. But, best of all are the looks on the kids’ faces – and their teacher’s too – when they see all the new goodies in their sparkling classroom.”
Habitat for Humanity
We’re home builders, after all, so isn’t it natural for us to get involved in this wonderful program that provides quality housing and encourages home ownership? “We provide organizational and financial support to be sure,” Luhn says, “but what we like best of all is getting out in the field, getting dirty and getting pretty tired, too, actually building a Habitat home. Nothing beats watching the new homeowners walking through their own home for the very first time. Look at the About Us menu drop down for a link to an article that explains all about Habitat for Humanity. It would be great for us to have you join in the fun work for a great cause.
Local Environmental Sustainability
We recently received the Press Release you can see by clicking the link provided. We are honored to have been selected as the builder-developer most supportive of local environmental responsibility. Press Release-KBB Riverfest 2013
Tiny Tour of Homes
LifeStyle Homes was proud to be one of the prime sponsors of the Holiday Playhouse Village tour of children’s 6′x6′ playhouses held as part of the annual Space Coast Lightfest this past December. Established by the Eau Gallie Rotary Club, the Lightfest is a holiday-themed, drive-through, family-oriented event featuring shimmering lights and twinkling displays. This past year, the Lightfest drew over 15,000 cars filled with delighted children and adults.
The Holiday Playhouse Village featured 5 creatively decorated children’s playhouses, built, outfitted and donated by LifeStyle Homes, CIA Developers, Prime Bank, Fidelity Bank of Florida, N.A. and Evans Butler Realty with Space Coast Youth Build. Each sponsor purchased the basic 6′X6′ playhouse kit and constructed it as a company team-building opportunity. Each sponsor then finished their playhouse to their own specification and decorated it especially to attract top dollar bids from the parents of excited children in an auction sale of the playhouses.
Proceeds were all for charity, of course, in this instance, Space Coast Habitat for Humanity. What an appropriate way to raise money for this worthy charity! Click here to see some photos of the LifeStyle Homes Tiny Tour entry.
From a Florida Today Letter to the Editor:
Dear Mr. Glish:
Just a few days before Christmas, my family and I went to Wickham Park to see the wonderful light display. Upon entering the park we were given a raffle ticket for a child’s playhouse to fill out and return. To our amazement we recieved a message from Habitat of Brevard telling us that we had won a playhouse built by Lifestyle Homes (a business partner of Habitat of Brevard) and donated for the raffle. The playhouse is absolutely awesome. It looks like a boat with a bow and stern and ships wheel that turns. It has a red barrel tile roof and real working windows and a front door that locks. Inside the playhouse is a cushioned floor a counter and cabinets. It is so awesome.
The playhouse was set up and delivered yesterday to my brother’s home for his three grandchildren, ages 4, 2 and 1 to enjoy.
What a wonderful thing Lifestyle Homes is doing in our community. They have made some little boys very happy and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their generous donation, their time and ongoing commitment to Brevard County.

Random Acts . . .
Every now and then, an opportunity comes our way to do something special that really needs doing. One of these occurred in 2008 when a local Firefighter, whose own home had burned down during the tragic Palm Bay wild fires, approached us to build a replacement home for he and his family. We decided it would be appropriate for us to build that home without profit and to ask some of our trusted trade partners to chip in also. “It was just too much to think about this man losing his own home while he was on duty helping others save theirs,” said Jake Luhn. “It was the least we could do to honor this wonderful man and his special commitment to our community.”
